Is there a remedy for…?

Have you seen homeopathy posts that say, “There’s a remedy for that!” I’m sure you have, they are all over facebook groups. And while yes, there “is a remedy for that,” we need to shift our thinking about this question. One of the most important hallmarks of homeopathy is individualization. It’s one of the many things that makes homeopathy great. It recognizes that each person is their own individual, and the way one person deals with and has whatever named disease is different from another person and the same named disease.

One of the most important hallmarks of homeopathy is individualization.

Hahnemann is quoted as saying, “The name if the disease does not concern me, the name of the remedy is of no importance to you.” He wouldn’t even tell his students what remedies he would give. Why? He wanted to avoid a certain remedy from becoming a standard prescription for any patient with the same named disease. Now, in this day and age we can’t keep secret from a client what remedy they are taking for ethical concerns, but what Hahnemann was trying to drive home was, it doesn’t matter what you have, it matters how you have it. How is your body telling you it is out of balance and not operating at its best self. Ten different patients with gastritis can have ten different remedy prescriptions from a homeopath because it depends on their entire totality of symptoms. The mental, emotional, and physical make up of their life history all play a role in remedy selection.

“The name if the disease does not concern me, the name of the remedy is of no importance to you.”
— Samuel Hahnemann

So while the question most people will ask is, “Do you have a remedy for XYZ condition” the answer should be, “Yes, there is a remedy for a person who has XYZ.” Homeopathy doesn’t focus on finding the microbe that causes disease. Germs are everywhere, but only certain people are susceptible. By using homeopathy, we can change the susceptibility. Modern medicine is very good at finding and pinpointing microbes, what they lack is how to treat it, especially for viruses. What homeopaths do is look where the vital force is leaking and how the body is expressing that. It is then that we take all the information and put it together in what is called the totality of symptoms, which is a totally individualized prescription. Homeopaths address the whole person, not just an organ or part. Homeopathy can treat patients of all ages, genders, and suffering from almost any ailment. So while, yes, there is a remedy for that, its more than just this remedy is for this named condition. By doing that, we are doing a disservice not only to homeopathy, but to the patient. The true healing in homeopathy comes largely from patient’s being seen, heard, and understood. It is often said the first remedy is just telling the homeopath all of their struggles. You can’t have that if you just give a remedy based solely off of an allopathic diagnosis.

Homeopathy can treat patients of all ages, genders, and suffering from almost any ailment.
